Mid-Atlantic Robotics 2012 Point Ranking System
Elimination Points for Backup Teams
The 24 teams in the Elimination rounds are each competing for a share of Elimination points available in the system. The point system is closed, with a fixed value of 196 Elimination points available at each event.
In the Elimination rounds, points are awarded for winning matches which advance your Alliance in the Elimination round tiers.
Elimination Points are awarded at a schedule of 10 points per layer of Elimination for the Captain and 1st Draft Pick, and 8 points per layer for the 2nd Draft Pick. Elimination matches require two match wins for an Alliance to advance, so each match win is effectively worth 5, 5, & 4 points for the respective members of the winning Alliance in each tier of Elimination rounds.
Teams who enter the Elimination rounds as backups are considered direct replacements for the team they replace. As such, replacement teams will receive all remaining points earned starting from the point when they enter the tournament. Likewise, teams who exit the tournament will stop receiving Elimination round points at their point of exit.
Backup teams are not part of the Alliance Selection process and as such they receive no points relating to Alliance Selection.
Example 1: Three TEAMS, A, B and C, form an ALLIANCE going into the Elimination matches. Following the first round of the Semifinals, Team C’s ROBOT becomes inoperable. The Alliance of A, B, & C are ahead 1-0 in the Semifinals tier at this point. The ALLIANCE CAPTAIN decides to bring up Team D to replace Team C. Team C and their ROBOT may not play in any subsequent elimination matches. Team C will receive any and all Elimination points they have accumulated up to the point at which the substitution is made. Team C has gathered 8 points for winning the Quarterfinals at this point.
The Alliance of A, B & D go on the win the tournament. Team C receives an additional 4 points for winning the first match of the Semifinals, since this win contributed to the Alliance’s advancement to the finals, for a total of 12 points. Team D is awarded the remaining points which would have gone to Team C had they remained in the tournament: 4 points for the 2nd win in the Semifinals, and 8 additional points for the 2 wins in the Finals, for a total of 12 points.
Example 2: Same Scenario as Example 1, except following the substitution of Team D for Team C, the Alliance loses Match 2 and Match 3 of the Semifinals and they are eliminated from the tournament. In this scenario, Team C receives 8 points for winning the Quarterfinals, and Team D receives no points, since the Alliance did not win the Semifinals and no further Elimination points are awarded to the Alliance.
